Over the Sink Shelf

Another idea from Steve Good, I had to try this one out.

The shelf has a wide base and is designed to have the shelf part offset a bit to allow it to sit flush against a bathroom mirror or wall. The top sits high enough off the counter top that you can still easily access the faucet and taps.

I went with a hummingbird here, but there's really almost no limit to the designs or details that could be incorporated.

Construction is simple pine with Minwax Honey Maple gel stain. I love the colour, which the photos don't do justice, but wish it was available in a regular type of stain (gel can be a bit to work with sometimes).

Different materials can always be used according to the customers preferences. I've recently been using some spalted maple for some tabletops (pics to come soon) that would look great in a shelf like this.

If you're interested in one of these for yourself or as a gift just email me the details and I'll respond with some ideas and maybe sketches. Let's put one of these in your bathroom!

Also available for kitchens. Ask me about other custom shelving options.

Tea Candle Holders

These are one of the first items I started making to sell and have always gone over well. They're simple, yet decorative and can be modified to fit almost any decor scheme.

There are 2 models I have made in this design, although I might soon improvise another, the 1 candle and the 3 candle models.

The 3 candle model top down view, showing the small bottom holes. Imagine burning 3 candles and only one needs to be changed; what do you do? You certainly don't dump the whole thing upside down and spill the other 2 lit candles! This allows you to remove one candle at a time without tipping. Another great idea that I must attribute to Steve Good.

Showcasing one set in a dark/light pattern. I think these were stained Jacobean and Honey Maple. Sets of course sell for a discounted rate over buying the 1 and 3 candle separately.

A sideview of a 3 candle. Along with the 1 candle below I think both were stained Golden Pecan and Red Chestnut. I enjoy the wide colour selection from Minwax. And no, I don't get paid to promote their stuff. It's just good stuff.

These are of course just a small selection of the colour options that are available. In fact the options are pretty much unlimited. When I get some more designs in this style I will be sure to post them.

In the meantime, as always, feel free to send your ideas and concepts along and I'll respond with prices and products. I don't post prices here because there are a number of factors affecting price, including whether it will have to be shipped, how many are being purchased, what materials are used, etc. However, if you email our shop and tell us what you'd like, I will respond ASAP with a FIRM price as well as shipping rates.

That's it for this one

Boxes!!!

I've made a number of boxes in the shop recently. Below are just a few samples of what i've done, which is but a small sample of what I can do.

This is an inlay box with an image of a dolphin inlaid in clay and baked into the box top. This could easily be almost any image or a custom name or word.

I still remember seeing a small sliding top box similar to this when I was a little boy. Don't think i've seen one since actually...at least until I made this one.  The body of the box is 3/4" pine with 1/4" BB plywood for the top and bottom.

So what do you do with the pieces of 2" lumber left over after cutting out toys? Well, that's up to you, but I've been making lots of mine into random shaped boxes. I have a slowly growing collection of these made from scraps.

Same as the above box only showing it closed instead of open.

As always, customization is encouraged. Send me your plans and ideas and I can make them a reality for you. Giving someone special some jewellery as a gift? Why not give it in style with a custom, handmade box?

Also make great keepsake pieces.

Scroll Turned Spiral Candlestick Holders

I frequently get asked the question, "Oh, are those made on a lathe?" And I reply, "How would you make these on a lathe?" I'm sure there is a way, but I don't know it.

These are hand cut on a scroll saw and sanded to get nice round contours and equal dimensioning. The candlesticks are then finished using stain (if necessary) and any finish or sealant is applied.

Close up on some of the spiral curves.

Spiral candlestick stained with Minwax Red Chestnut.

A pair finished with walnut Danish Oil.

I've done a number of other colours and have a few other variants in stock right now. Different dimensions and colours can be made available upon request.

Custom Words and Names

These are popular with almost everyone and I think I know why: they are truly YOURS.
What i mean is that they aren't just another off the shelf item, they are what you want them to be. Whether it's a phrase like "Live Love Laugh" or the name of a loved one, or simply the word ""Love", it has a personal meaning that is unique to you.

All words and names pictured have been cut from 3/4" pine. Other materials can be made available if preferred. or you could opt to have them stained instead of left plain. They are given a basic sanding before leaving the shop so that and burring or furring is removed from the edges.

There is a base cost to all words up to five letters, with an additional cost per letter after that.

What words can you get? Pretty much anything you want, although a heads up....I don't think i can do this style with an apostrophe.
We've only shown words here, but many people have purchased the names of their children, friends or other loved ones. Some people have even bought them as gifts for friends.
Additionally, these could be stained, finished, mounted to a plaque, done in another font...you tell us what you want.

Please note that all words, unless otherwise specified, begin with an upper case letter, and that if there are letters which would normally sit below the line of text (i.e. g, p, q, etc.) the other lowercase letters will be raised up above the line. The word "Hope" pictured above gives an example of this. If this is not desired, for a sign or other mounting perhaps, please specify when contacting us.

Rearing Stallion

Ok, so right off the start...this is NOT my own design. This is from Steve Good over at http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.ca/. Steve does a TON of good work, and I am happy to support him. That said, if you see anything over there that you like...give us a shout...or since we're on the internet, just email us :)

These are a very popular item and are admired by people of all ages. The horse stands around 10" with the base. The ones I've made so far have been either red, black or brown.

I should note, however, that with rare exception, I don't paint my products. I do stain wood to keep down the costs of buying exotic and expensive wood species, but I only paint a few items and this isn't one of them. Woodgrain is a beautiful thing to admire and a terrible thing to hide.

Feel free to send us your personal ideas or colour preferences for this or other products.

Pull Toys!

Our handmade wooden pull toys are a child's breath from yesteryear. Cut from 1 3/4" spruce they are chemical free and child friendly. Our own children play with the toys we make before we produce them for marketing, so we know they are safe, durable and of course FUN!

And all toys are tested after assembly. If the wheels don't turn, we don't sell it.

The kitten was our second design and has the poise of a frisky kitten ready to play.
The puppy was our #1 design for a pull toy. What child doesn't want a puppy? And best of all...no mess!
We continually receive comments about how cute the ducky is. Our #1 selling pull toy to date.
Both the lion and the lamb are newer additions. The playful lamb or the majestic lion.
More designs coming, we just have to get the pics uploaded. Have an idea that you don't see here? Just let us know and we'll make it a reality.
