Fretwork Tote

In response to the most common comment I get on this sort of thing; yes, it IS a lot of cutting and it DOES take time. :)

This could be used for a number of things from a napkin holder to something for knitting or crocheting supplies, or whatever else you can think of. 

The tote shown is made from 1/4" baltic birch plywood and is unstained and unfinished, so it is effectively  a blank slate. I can stain almost any colour or you could paint it however you like or I can just put some simple finish on it. This is just the basic model. 

Customization can also be done in terms of size, number of divisions, etc. So if you wanted something like this that had 5 compartments, was 7" high and 12" long and looked like walnut, I can do that.

*Special note: Just came into a number of small pieces of cherry this evening, ideal for most of the projects I've listed here and just bristling with potential. Maybe I'll post some pics of finished work. Better yet, maybe it can be your piece :)

Cars and Trucks

Good old fashioned style cars and trucks. No gimmicks, no electronics, no noises except those made by the ones playing with them . 

A delivery truck...

Ane a pickup truck completes the set.

All are made from 1 1/2" spruce, are solidly made and child tested and approved. No chemicals have been used to treat or finish the wood so they are non toxic and ready for children or parents to decorate however they like.
Make a tractor look just like grandpa's tractor, or paint a truck to look like daddy's.

3D Deer Scene

I was actually going to post something a bit more...practical...today, but apparently I've fallen far behind on taking pics of products again, so maybe tomorrow (or later today if I get around to it). 

This is a sample of 3D woodart. The picture below is comprised of 6 different layers, each a different colour, which gives a strong sense of depth. Under normal lighting conditions you can even see shadows behind each piece. 

I say this is a sample because i have a number of others I'm hoping to do soon, so long as other projects don't get in the way

The layers are 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood, stained with various products.

Custom Anniversary Plaque

Ok, so this goes back to my early days but I thought I'd put it up anyway. 

A custom anniversary wall plaque I made for a friend of mine. The quality is almost embarrassing to me now, but I'm told it still looks nice. 

This was 100% custom, designed from scratch really. We went through a stack of patterns and designs I had before building this from the ground up.

The silhouette comes from a Steve Good pattern but the rest was all custom.

I'd love to do another one of these now with what I've learned since then. Anyone willing to give me the opportunity?

Some fun stuff...superhero style...

Interesting tidbit of the day...

Did you know the term "superhero" (with no spaces or hyphens) is legally copyrighted by Marvel and DC comics jointly? Back in the 1980's the 2 companies actually waged legal warfare against each other trying to secure exclusive rights to the word. The outcome? Both were granted equal status and all the other competitors simply printed the word with a space or hyphen, making it a compound word rather than a single word.

Ok, so that probably isn't life altering and neither are these, but they seem a fun way to brighten a room and bring out the comic book geek in all of us.

Both insignias are made from baltic birch plywood and stained for colour and measure about 8" in width.

I'm hoping to have some more available soon, both Marvel and DC. And if either company doesn't like free publicity they're getting, I'll just give it to someone else.

So apparently we're having some technical difficulties today, where "we" is the google server and my PC. Hopefully I can get a post or 2 in tomorrow, but we'll just have to wait and see.

A good opportunity to remind any local followers that I will be at the Marmora Farmer's Market tomorrow (or today as the case may be), that is, Saturday August 3rd, from 8am to 2 pm.

A further reminder to some of my local regulars that I have new items every weekend and this weekend is no exception. Special things to look for this week are the clocks and a couple of new bowls as well. Oh, and a coffee table to go with the side table I posted earlier this week.

Side Table

So, something a bit...different, or at least larger, than usual today. 

I was out shopping for lumber last week and came across a stash of wormy soft maple. There was some beautiful spalting and curls in this stuff and I knew I had to do something to really show off the beautiful grain and colour. Something bigger than my usual scrollsaw stuff. 

A table seemed like a logical choice for showcasing grain, and a side table seemed a good size for an afternoon project.

The top is made from the wormy maple, the legs are spruce stained Minwax Early American. I didn't take a close up shot of the legs, but I liked the way the stain brought out the grain pattern.

Currently working on a matching coffee table and I'll probably had the pics of that up next week sometime.

These are essentially showcase pieces for me, but i would love the opportunity to make something a bit bigger out of this stuff. It looks so much better up close than the pictures can do justice to.
